IMPACT TESTING BOSIK Consultants Ltd.

Pneumatic gun Operating the National Research Council of Canada's (NRCC) Flight Impact Simulator Facility in Ottawa, Ontario, Bosik offers a unique capability in impact testing. Bosik performs High G shock testing for a variety of test items to meet both client specifications and industry standards.

The NRC Flight Impact Simulator facility includes a large pneumatic gun (10-inch barrel diameter) and a machining area equipped for fixturing test-specific items. The large pneumatic gun, measuring approximately 75 feet in length, is employed to propel test items to their impact points.

The facility is furnished with the technology and equipment necessary to attain reliable test data, including:

• Velocity timing frame
• Load cells
• High speed cameras
• Movias motion analyzer
• Energy absorbing system
• Strain gage equipment
• Non-contact deflection measurement
• Digital scopes
• Data Acquisition System

BIRD IMPACT TESTING

Bird impact testingThe increase in the population of large birds in recent years has affected a parallel threat to air safety. Subsequently, the rising number of aircraft/bird collisions has necessitated analysis of bird impacts through simulation.

Bosik Consultants Limited operates the National Research Council's Flight Impact Simulator Facility in Ottawa, ON. The facility houses a large pneumatic cannon (10-inch barrel diameter, measuring approximately 75 feet in length) employed to propel birds to their targets in order to simulate bird strikes with aircraft components. Aircraft components typically impacted include windshields, wings and empennage leading edges.
